Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of Jot (the "Service"), provided by Sivaranjani M, trading as LeafSoft, based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. By using the Service you agree to these Terms.

1. The Service

Jot is a personal note-taking app with optional AI features (provided via your own Google Gemini API key). It runs in Local mode (data on your device only) or Cloud mode (synced via our servers).

2. Accounts

Cloud mode requires an email address. You authenticate via magic link — no password.
You are responsible for keeping access to your email account secure.
One person per account. Do not share credentials or sessions.
You must be at least 13 years old (or 16 in the EEA).

3. Your content

You retain all rights to the notes, tags, and AI skills you create ("Your Content").
You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, transmit, back up, and display Your Content solely to operate the Service for you.
You are solely responsible for Your Content and for having the rights to store it.

4. AI features (bring your own key)

AI features require your own Google Gemini API key. You are responsible for compliance with Google's terms and any costs or quotas on your key.
When you trigger an AI action, relevant content (the note, an excerpt, or your prompt) is sent to Google under your key. We do not control or warrant Google's processing.
AI outputs may be inaccurate or inappropriate. Review before relying on them.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Use the Service for illegal activity or to store unlawful content (e.g. CSAM, content that infringes others' rights, doxxing material).
Attempt to break, overload, reverse-engineer, or probe the Service (other than good-faith security research disclosed to security@leafsoft.online).
Resell, sublicense, or operate the Service on behalf of third parties without written permission.
Use the Service to send spam, malware, or to harass others.
Circumvent rate limits or quotas.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.

6. Free service; no SLA

The Service is currently offered free of charge on a best-effort basis. There is no uptime guarantee, no support SLA, and features may change or be removed. Export your notes regularly via Settings → Export.

7. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. To delete your account and data, email privacy@leafsoft.online.
We may suspend or terminate your account for breach of these Terms, legal requirements, or to protect the Service.
Sections that by their nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, liability, governing law) survive termination.

8. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT AI OUTPUTS WILL BE ACCURATE.

9. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SIVARANJANI M WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (a) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS (WHICH FOR A FREE ACCOUNT IS ₹0) OR (b) INR 4,000.

10. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Sivaranjani M from claims arising out of Your Content or your breach of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law.

11. Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms. If material, we will notify you by email or in-app banner. Continued use after the effective date of changes means you accept the new Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Courts at Chennai, Tamil Nadu have exclusive jurisdiction, except where applicable consumer-protection law gives you the right to file in your home jurisdiction.
